I need to pull the gas pedal back with my foot, does not want to return all the way on its own. Cannot find an obstruction, carb works smooth. Should I grease/oil the pivot points (relay lever)? Could the return spring be tired?

Dan,

How is the tension on the two springs the one at the carb and the one at the throttle relay? The throttle relay spring should be the main one providing the return tension for the pedal plus rod up to the relay.

Good luck..!

Hmmm, don't recall seeing one on the relay, just from the spark plug wire bracket to the carb.

Dan,

Section 10 of the manual Fig 10-2 show the relay with the spring, attaching a picture.

Good luck..!

Jose, my cars don't have this spring either! I suppose it's not available quite easely; was that spring still on the car when you bought it or did you let manufacture one spring?

Roger,

Mine came with it same one as shown in the picture. The relay has two tabs on the swinging arm and at the main frame that bolts to the firewall. Do to the angle of the swing and the location of the arm the spring has one stem longer for clerance.

If you (or Dan) require some pictures and dimensions of the spring I’ll be glad to send them over later today, just let me know.

That'll be the problem. No spring in the relay. I can always use a stiffer one on the carb & fix it that way but the car is so original I would rather do it right. Any idea where I can find that spring?

Jose', thanks for the heads up on that.

Sorry for the delay Jose; yes, I would like to have the dimensions of that spring; our cars are never completely finished!

Hi Jose,

I have just checked my part, that has not been fitted yet, as shown in the photo you supplied and Surprise Surprise, I am missing that spring also. I would like to know the dimensions as well.

I have the small circlip type fitting.

Folks,

Sorry for the delay, hard time finding the storage box and some technical issues with the camera.  >:(

First the spring that came with my throttle relay is not the original, and it looks similar to the one showing on the manual. I took some rough measurements, hope this helps.

Spring total length (no tension) is about 4 ½” â€"4 ¾”.

The spring side (windings) is about 1 ¼” 1 ½”.

The stem is about 2 ¼”.

Spring wire thickness 0.007” and OD (winding) 0.5”.

The spring is slightly stretched once its place on the relay tabs, I would think one could be made easily. I’m not 100% positive but the tension maybe around 15-20lb, I would need to check.

Good luck..!

Very good & thanks. Now I have to find a spring guy who has something close.
