Has anyone created a retrofit to provide an air filter that will fit within the correct air muffler unit?

Hi Jim,

I've never heard of someone doing that, but it's a great idea.  Cadillac didn't fully adopt filtering of the incoming air until the 1932 model year.  In fact, the first V-16s in 1930 had their updraft carburetors open to the air.  After getting feedback about water splashing into the mouths of the carbs and degrading performance, Cadillac made a mid-year change and attached S-shaped intake pipes to the carburetors (and directed dealer service departments to retro-fit them onto existing cars).  In 1931 intake mufflers were added to the V-8 and the new V-12 engines, but not filters (V-16s retained the plain intake pipes).  Then in 1932, all models were equipped with a combination intake silencer/air filter (two for the V-12s and V-16s).

Good luck.

No need to investigate this, the air flow through a modern filter is way to low, for the old engine set up, to get a proper mixture. It will run way to rich due to the lack of air.
Been there and are, after several attempts, back to the old wire mesh insert.   Johan
