Hey folks,

can 70s mirrors with there textured finishes successfully be re-chromed? How about door handles? Can these parts be completely disasembled for repair and/or refinishing?

I have a set of 71 door handles with horrid pitting but exceptional mechanisms. I swapped them off the car in favor of some good used ones I had. I also remember in the 80s just buying new mirrors but those days are gone....anyways does anyone have any experience in rebuilding these items and rechroming over the textured finish?

I think youll find that the matte silver part of the outside rearview mirror is paint.  I have seen scratched ones that have bright chrome under the satin finish.
