How much control do the admins have over the coding of the site?
« on: November 05, 2013, 11:08:22 PM »
I think it would be a good idea to have a tagging system on the site. Much like Facebook. If I make a post and I want to make sure a specific member sees it, I could, for example, include a tag on the post with that specific members username. Then, once tagged, the member would get a notification that they have been tagged in a post.

I think, a lot of times, a post is made and there is a specific member who would best be able to respond but they never see it due to the number of posts that there are to follow. Or, I could post a message that I think a specific member would most benefit from. Tagging would direct them to that post.

I think this all depends on the amount of control the admins have over the PHP coding this forum utilizes.

Would not sending the targeted member a PM with a link to the post accomplish the same thing?

Joe:

If by "admins" you mean the moderator/administrators, we have no control of the coding or programming of the site.  Our webmaster, Peter Gariepy, has that control.  However, any changes such as you have proposed would probably have to be approved by the IT committee.

Does Dave Yaros' suggestion accomplish the same thing?

Joe,

Anything is possible, but as a general rule we keep the forum software "stock" to allow easier upgrades.

If response to your specific request, if you thing you know someone who can respond to an answer best, simply copy the url of the thread and either email or private message them the link.  Thats the best solution I can give you right now.

Thank you, all of you. I thought the upgrade path would become a problem. I understand that there are other ways of accomplishing a similar thing.

Again, thanks for the responses.
