Has anyone installed an after market water temperature gauge on a 71 Eldorado 500 eng? and if so, where did you connect the temperature probe?  as you all know, the temp. switch is behind the water pump and the probe wont fit there.any help and ideas will be appreciated.  ???
Thank you

There are 2 temperature "switches".  One hidden by the alternator controls the heat ON function of the Temperature Control system not allowing the heat to come on until the engine temperature is about 120 degrees.  The other is at the rear of the engine on the left side and is part of the engine overheat warning system.  Both of these switches are dry, they are not immersed in water and not suitable for a temperature sending unit.
The temperature sending unit is located behind the water pump and is wet and where the temperature sending unit you are considering should be placed.  The probe will fit there but necessitates an adapter, often supplied with the unit.

The only place for an aftermarket gauge sender is in place of the pollution control actuator in the front of the block, on the left side, that controls the vacuum supply to the Distributor.

This can only be used if the Pollution Controls are not functioning, and could be used as a temporary source of hot water.

The other access could be the heater supply port at the rear of the right cylinder head.

How about, putting it where the sensor for the 76 EFI goes?  Of course
