Cannot speak specifically to Caddy,  but most GM cars of that year used a spring clip to hold the handle onto the shaft.  Removal requires the use of a commonly available door handle removal tool -

I've never heard the term "cozy wing" before. Sorry I can't help with your question, as my cars have electric cozy wings.

Each door handle and window crank has a spring-loaded collar that has to be pressed firmly toward the inside of the door to reveal the standard 1955 GM spring clip. They can be very frustrating to work with.

Buy some extra clips before you start. There are 2 sizes of clips; they look similar, but the slightly smaller ones fit perfectly. The larger ones will work, but they prevent the spring-loaded collar from seating properly. I bought both sizes at Auto Zone.

I tried several of the clip removal/installation tools available online, but had better luck with a couple of sharp picks, one straight and one with a quarter-inch 90-degree bend at the tip.

Good luck!

The little clip fits in the slot, you have to push the clip out, which will allow the handle to come off the stub sticking out of the door panel.
