Trying to understand/troubleshoot illuminated entry system on this car. Trying to comprehend the service manual on the system. Thought I'd lay out the symptoms and see what suggestions the group would have on what to check first.

Lights do not come on when pressing either door button.
Foot well lights are always on.
Both front door switches do not turn on lights, even with jiggling the open switch piston.
Lights do come on with back doors and headlight switch.
Lock lights do not come on at any time.

Recently acquired this 28K car. Generally in very nice overall condition. Well optioned including EFI and ACRS.

Also equipped with Theft Deterrent System and Fuel Economy Monitor, both also not working. AC working; however, climate controls not working. Nothing happens when changing temperature and air only blows to the floor.

I did search and found a threat from three years ago but didn't really see a resolution.

Thanks.

You certainly have taken on a set of projects; hope you like electrical work.  The
first step is knowing IN DETAIL how its supposed to work, then figure how it
differs.  Then WHY different?  This involves finding out the EXACT wiring.  Getting
spare modules can be very useful; I would look them over and see about replacing
any polarized capacitors.  AT least this generation is mostly repairable.
good luck, Bruce Roe

Worth the effort, i think. Very nice condition. Purrs like a kitten. Very solid car and will be stunning after a repaint. Very minor bodywork necessary. Six options short of a full deck. Immaculate interior. Shiny chrome.

I have a 79 module; don't know if its the same as 76.  Check the timing
chain for slack; the originals fail with age, regardless of mileage.  Bruce Roe

Illuminated entry module is different after 1976. 75/76 used the same module located behind left front kick panel (that holds hood release)
They are notorious for failure due to moisture contamination.
I have collected about a dozen of them thru the years and pretty soon will replace the one in my '76
So I hope to have a couple of good ones.

Thanks. Do those symptoms sound like the relay? Would a failed relay keep the foot well lights on all the time?

If you have that many, you ought to be able to fix a few of them.
