Ive searched for the information without any success. Im guessing that Hess & Eisenhardt used a commercial chassis and stretched it a further 7 from 158 to 165.

If you compare a side view of a regular commercial car for 1956 (158 chassis) and that of the presidential parade convertible, youll see what I mean.  Look at image #xx56pres.jpg on this Web page: http://home.earthlink.net/~alestaid/images. TARGET=_blank>http://home.earthlink.net/~alestaid/images.

Notice how the bodies appear similar in size from the front bumper tip all the way back to the simulated vertical air intake on the leading edge of the rear fender. Notice also how the rear axle is about 7 further back than on the regular commercial chassis. Finally notice the longer overhang behind the rear axle.

The standard 1956 commercial car body (e.g. the Meteor ambulance and hearse] is 245.75 long.  Compare the two images again; Id say the convertible is about another 20 longer, making it around 266 in o.a. length.

I actually drove the car in 1978. I never thought to measure it though.

You can see more info and photos in the Cadillac Database at this URL:
