Re: speedo cal.  I had a new 59 Chev. where the speedo indicated 10 MPH too fast.  I took it to a repair shop where he said all GM speedos speed cups were calibrated to indicate 60 MPH at 1000 cable RPM.  
He then demagnitised the cup to have the needle read 60MPH at 1000 RPM. The odometer was still fast which gave me better gas mileage, good news W/ the 348 CID engine.
