Hello my 1956 Cadillac sedan Deville has a leaking heater core on the driver side. Can it be bypassed with out hurting anything. Also does the whole box have to be removed to change it when the time comes.  Thank for ahead of time for any help

Michael,

Yes, just extend the hose from the “T” at the firewall from the heater thermostatic valve over to the “Y” adapter on the left side fender. If you have the Service Manual section 16 Fig 16-B-1 will show you the coolant path for these hoses.

PS You will have the removed the left side fender to gain access for the heater removal, a huge task to say the least.   :(

Good luck..!

The heater core can be removed from the inside of the car by lowering the emergency brake handle and removing the kick panel.  Remove the 6 or 8 bolts, can't remember which, to separate the two case halfs, remove the three small screws that secure the heater core to the from case half then move the front case half out of the way.  The heater core tips out for removal.
Not an easy job by any means but better than fender removal.
Good luck.
