1948 Cadillac Convertible Top Frame Components
« on: May 24, 2011, 08:00:54 AM »
I am looking for a convertible top frame component for my 1948 Series 62 Convertible.   I’ve attached a photo and a rough sketch showing approximate dimensions.   The piece shown is on the driver’s side of the car; I need the same component for the passenger’s side, which is essentially opposite hand.    Any condition would be considered.
Also it may be that other GM vehicles share convertible top frames with the 1948 Cadillac and that those components would match.   I’m not sure but some 98 series Olds and Buicks (possibly Pontiacs) of that era do share components.   If you know this to be the case and have that matching piece please let me know.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

G'day Ed,
Worst case I think that an hour with some flat bar, an oxy and a beer in the shed would have that licked. Not a difficult piece to replicate (particularly as you have the other to copy) and also as it is screwed in and not riveted. Do you not have a local metal shop in your area, if you do not have the facilities at home? I can see it being a $50 job. (chrome an extra $50) Regards. Q

Quentin:

I'm looking into this option as well and it may very well be the most prudent path.

thanks for the suggestion.

Specifically what pieces are you trying to reassemble?    I can photo what you need and send it along.
