I need to replate the rear bumpers on my 57 Seville. Anyone that have had these done knows it costs a fortune and very few shops are willing to take them on. We had the originals on our Biarritz redone about 15 years ago by Paul's Chrome in Pennsylvania. We were very happy with the result and they've held up pretty good. We only ran the exhaust through the bumpers for a few months before re-routing it. This summer however I noticed a pretty large crack developing under one of the backup lamps. The car has been garaged in a climate controlled environment since it was done.

Instead of replating the originals on my Seville I'm considering buying a pair of the reproduction castings advertised in the Self-Starter by James Peterson. I'm wondering if anyone have bought these? How is the fit/finish compared to OEM pieces and what was the plating costs? Chrome plating often gets incredibly expensive because of all the prep work involved in stripping and preparing the parts for new plating. With the new castings I'd imagine preparation work would be minimal and thus could offset much of the $2700 purchase cost. An added bonus could also be better chrome durability if the aluminum in the reproductions is a better grade than the originals.
