Does anyone know what the correct battery size is for a 1959 series 62. (group and dimensions)  I bought a new battery tray from McVey's and the battery I had doesn't fit.  The old battery box had been repaired with a new bottom years ago to fit the battery I had.  I'm sure it was done like that on purpose.
Thanks in advance.

The correct battery size is only available in reproduction. A modern close fit would be a group 27F

If you are more concerned about price than looks, and just want a modern battery that is narrow enough to fit and powerful enough to run your car, take a look at the Interstate Group 50 (C50-XHD).  I've been very happy with it.  I am running the original generator and have had no starting issues, even when the car sat for 3 weeks.

Eric,
This Restoration Battery has the look and fit you need - but more than little pricey.
Check out the site.

I have some experience with the restoration batteries.
You have to also buy the 2 amp float charger/maintainer they recommend which is cheaper on Amazon. A regular battery tender will not keep one of these topped off.

I bought a battery tender for AGM batteries (this is the battery inside the case of the Restoration Battery product). It works fine and was about $49 at my local Canadian Tire store.

Dan -

Think you mean Group 27.  The 27F has the positive and negative posts reversed for Ford (F) products.  I run a 27 in the 1958 and a 27F in my 1973 Lincoln.  Not only are the posts reversed, they are not centered, so a 27F would require stretching of the terminal connectors to fit or longer cables.

I was recently looking into batteries from this era and noticed that some for fairly current cars are actually pretty close to what appears to be the original size.   I didn't write down a group number, I was just looking at batteries on the shelf at the parts store.   I'm assuming its a fairly modern app because all the current stuff seems to have the terminals recessed which I like since a lot of the older applications the terminals seem to get fairly close to the hood.   Many of the new ones even have a cap that snaps over the top to cover the positive terminal.    This does not help if you are going for the original look but may be an option if you just want something that will fit with minimum hassle.    If you have the rectangle retainer plate I suppose the recessed terminals won't work.

The correct group 60k from 57-64 has reverse offset posts.

I see.  Mine works best with the Group 27.  I guess either is fine.

Eric,
Dan showed the battery installed, and here are the covers for the terminals (Steele Rubber).
Makes for a sanitary look, and although the 59's terminals are well below the hood, they help the problems noted by TJ.
Have fun,
