1958 transmission

hi there everyone, was wondering if anyone new what sealing agent was used or should be used between transmission body and bell housing on 1957  trani's. when pulled apart there was a white type sealer between the two parts. thanks for your time and await a possible answer.  Jeff 1957 series 60

There should be just a large O ring located into the groove. Nothing else.

Roger is absolutely correct.  Someone, most likely, used "Gasgacinch" or a like sealer during a previous repair.
