1961 390 valve cover gasket replacement

This will be my first time replacing valve cover gaskets on a Cad 390 and wanted to see if there is anything special I should be aware of.  Cork?  Cork/rubber?  Cork/metal?  Rubber?  Glue gasket to cover with non hardening sealant?  Leaks are mostly coming from the rear which I understand is fairly common with this engine.  The car does have air, restricting access somewhat.  Any tips much appreciated.

I like the Cork Gaskets.

The secret of getting a good seal is to ensure the cover flange is completely flat

Glue the gasket to the cover with a bead of Loctite 5900, then a smear of 5900 on the head surface.

Tighten by hand, till touching nicely, then after half a day, then complete the tightening to factory torque specs.

As these days one isn't constantly needing to adjust the tappets as with a mechanical cam, the covers never need to come off again.

x2 on using cork gaskets.  If you still have leaks, some people have had good luck with the little “wings” that spread the bolt pressure.

Great tips all.  Thinking I may as well blast the covers and paint them while I'm at it.
