as you can see from my photo, the head has not yet been touched.  I just slid the larger valves in to show the difference.  As I previously mentioned, the block has been "decked", meaning that it has been machined as required so the tops of the pistons are exactly even with the cylinder block surface.  Since I am working on a "high compression"  1970 motor, and Cadillac themselves determined that the 10.5:1 as featured in 1968 and 1968 was a tad too high and went back down (through piston redesign) I  plan on taking just enough off the heads to raise the compression to an exact 10:1.
More will be revealed.

Marty told me the '70 motors were really 9.3 to 1 compression.

The sales department rounded up.

9.78:1 at a 76cc chamber. Going to take a few ccs out to get to a true 10:1. With the cam I intend using a little more compression can be successfully tolerated to pick up some power.

Heads are in the shop and should have the results in a week or so.

Hey Greg,
Did you get your heads back from the machine shop yet? Just curious about the results of the porting job. Can you post a couple pictures of the heads too?

Thanks,

Rick

Rick,
Sorry to drop the ball but I got side tracked an another motor. A large chamber 500. More on that motor later, but the heads are going to the shop tomorrow or Thursday.  Should have them back as well as test results shortly there after.

That's ok Greg,  I was just curious if you had them back yet.  Thanks for letting us/me know the status. I didn't want to miss your post about them.

Well,
I dropped by the machine shop to check on progress, and just like all shops that do quality work it is taking a bit longer than originally estimated. They have cleaned the heads and installed new valve guides.  We had a little conversation regarding the promised 2 weeks, and it should not be too long now.  Weather getting to be perfect for working outside, and my ambition is returning.

And this weekend, it'll be so cold outside, you're going to look out the window and curse it.

Hell...78-80 is a dream temperature. The Weather Channel is forecasting some bitter cold and snow into the DFW area with just cold down to the Houston area.

I absolutely HATE cold. I'd rather sweat.

That’s why we moved to San Antonio. It’s hot in the summer and (a few days) cold in the winter , but none of the extremes the face DFW and Houston. Don’t tell them or they’ll move here.

Didn't realize it has been that long since I started on this project.  With the heads at the machine shop for large valves and porting work I have been busy fooling around building 500 inch motors. Don't ask me what for, because you can't question an addiction.
Anyhow, just talked to the shop and we are a couple of weeks out, so I'll have all the new info soon.
