I was hoping SM Electrotech would have 10 ohm 3" speakers for me but I do not see them in stock.

RetroSound does not list any in 3".  Looked on eBay and Amazon with no luck.

Need them for my '67 Eldorado.

Does anyone have another source?

You might want to contact this place in suburban Cleveland.  The search function on their website truly sucks.  I have not used them for service, but it's a suggestion.

SM Electrotech make some fantastic speakers.  They typically do a run on speakers every quarter or so.  I had to wait for the 6x9 speakers for my 67 but it was worth the wait.  Sound quality is excellent and its almost close to being 100% factory correct.

All I see are 4 ohm speakers on OPGI.  From what I have read you must go with the original 10 ohm speakers or you will ruin the radio amp.  What is your experience?

8 Ohm is the lowest you'd want to go without frying the capacitors in the headset.

I may be getting old but I still do not see any 10 Ohm speakers on that site.  I see 10" and I see 4 ohm and 8 ohm.  Regardless, I was able to get in touch with Bryan Helms at SM Electrotech and he got me a pair of these 3.5" 8 to 10 OHM speakers for my 67 Eldo today!

Cool you bought square speakers when you need round, for $100+ shipping when you could have had the correct

You may have a heck of a time fitting those square speakers, 8 ohms in place of 10 may be, as stated above .... OK.

This is what I ended up getting for my '72 Eldo.

Took a long time trying to find small ones that would fit.

Had to modify the original bases so that the replacements could be fitted.

Yes, you are correct - square speaker frames do not work in round holes  However, the speakers removed from my 67 Eldorado have square frames.  Others from '67 have round ones. So get the ones that fit, amiright?

Take it from a 17 year guitar tech for major metal/glam bands... who lived and died by impedance relative to amplifier and speaker cabinet - NO SPEAKER will give you the stated ohms when you put a meter on it OR put a load on it, which is what really counts. Don't make me get into voice coil resistance being the same or greater than the speaker ohm and the frequencies that excite them that actually increase the impedance depending on the frequencies being played. Glazed over yet?

Crayons: measured with a meter a speaker will be cold anywhere from .5 to 2 ohms, anything from a Marshall Plexi to a 1970 Cadillac stereo radio doesn't give AF about a speaker being cold .5 to 2 ohms. EXCEED that and transformers and tubes start to get really annoyed.

Conclusion: yes you can use an 8ohm speaker if a 10ohm is spec'd.

Dooms Day Scenario: You think you're a math wizard, you've thrown Ohm's Law into the trash and decide to wire your left side and right side BRAND NEW 4ohm speakers you just got from Best Buy in series to give the head an 8ohm load. The back of the head has 4 outs to the speakers, basically 4 different channels, each requesting 8-10 ohms - each. Or in reverse trying to solder in-line a resistor to cool off a higher ohm speaker.  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

Working for/with Marc Bolan of T.Rex would make me over 80 years old, ie the average age of a CLC member, I'm one of the kids here as you know. The following bands were in their prime, ergo late 80's early-mid 90's when I worked for/with them, not the cover bands some have become recently-
Mass (road manager/stage manager/guitar tech), Bang (stage manager/guitar tech), The Dream/Extreme (Nuno Bettencourt/stage manager/guitar tech), Bang Tango, Skid Row, Guns'n Roses (monitors), Motley Crue (production), Alice Cooper (Orianthi), Whitesnake (production), LA Guns, Kix, White Lion, Dokken (George Lynch), Metallica (production), Disturbed (John Moyers), Kip Winger, New England, Rob DeLuca (Bang/Spread Eagle/Lynch Mob/Sebastian Bach/UFO),Faster Pussycat (Brent Muscat), Stryper, Great White (Michael Lardie), Charlie Farren/David Hull (The Joe Perry Project/Farrenheit), Haim, Ethan Brosh, John5 and *Joe Stump. *I still work for Joe when our schedules allow. This list is missing bands/musicians I know I'll remember later. This should also explain nicely why I'm deaf in my right ear as my position was always stage left. And it was FUN to hear (pardon the pun) very recently a friendofafriendofafriend (which is how this industry works) threw my hat into the ring for consideration in the lead guitar tech spot with Ghost when they start back up in May in France, absolutely my favorite band right now (I saw them in Providence last fall) and the band that owns the hard rock world at the present. Such an offer would be respectfully declined, I physically couldn't do that kind of tour anymore, and as a Euro band they're actually better off with Euro's in their personal crew. But I would absolutely consider a nice soft US tour with Alcatrazz as long as it didn't interfere with the Cadillac Nationals in 2024. The Ark and I have a date set in stone.... See how I brought this post back on topic? That's a good guitar tech. As always, "pictures or it didn't happen..."
