Hello, I am new to the forum and am looking for a front yoke and U-joint or driveshaft with front and rear yokes for my 69 Deville. I am located in Ventura CA. Any tips or leads would be appreciated. I am currently having my trans resealed and the shop says the front yoke is shot and the U-joint no longer has the snappy spring load in it. The drive shop down the road is quoting me 900 to rebuild it. I am no mechanic but I do try to get my hands dirty when I can. Thanks again.
$900 seems out of line to me, but you are in Kommiefornia. A complete rebuild and balance of one of those drive shafts should be no higher than $500 on the outside.I paid $350 for my last one in a '59.
Chalk it up as rising costs and California prices. :-\

The '69 Shaft is a completely different piece to that of the simplicity of the '59.
Double Cardan Joints are a lot more expensive than simple universal joints.

It was $600 for a rebuild/rebalance on my 70 shaft last year. Parts were scarce and pricey then...
If its a reputable shop, pay the money and get it done right. Assuming the tranny was rebuilt and not just a new
rear seal?

The tranny was not rebuilt. Everything was shifting great just some leaking from the seals and speedo area. The shop is resealing everything while the driveshaft shop is rebuilding. Should I be rebuilding the tranny if everything was shifting good? What is the concern there? Thanks

The concern is the car is 53 and parts don't last forever. The guys are already 'there', do you know if the tranny has been done already? It doesn't take long and its not that expensive to have done, one less thing to worry about. If seals are leaking, other parts are wearing as well. Do you have the fluid and filter changed regularly?

I do not believe the tranny has ever been done in the past. I bought the car a few years ago and it has around 69k miles on now. I have put a few thousand on it since I purchased it. I cant speak on the past but there was no metal in the pan so that is always good. I will inquire on how much it would be to rebuild while everything is out. The shop is just one lift and the owner does all the work. He quoted me around 400 and has taken every piece out and cleaned it. Love to see that level of care. Thanks for giving me the heads up.
