R12 charge hose repair

My mechanic told me the noise in my r12 charged compressor on my 1991 sedan DeVille is charged properly and running okay but a charge of oil might quiet it down. I've sourced a can of charged oil, and would like to use this charge hose but the gasket in it needed replacing so I source that as you can see in the picture. How do I get the old gasket out? I've tried with this dental pick but not having much luck. Is there a trick to this?

I don't see a picture.  Did you "upload" the picture before you posted?  With the new software update, posting pictures is a bit different than with the old software.

I have sliced off  a section of black rubber 'vacuum' hose of suitable size and inserted that before
