Just be grateful the car has rear drums and NOT discs! Trying to get the original rear disc brake system functioning correctly on an otherwise impeccable one owner all original 1976 Eldorado convertible with 17,000 miles wound up turning into nightmare-triple-deluxe beyond description. Forget it!

Similar difficulties were had with rear discs on
79 E cars here.  If I ever get the parts it may be
converted to rear drums, which do just fine on the
rest of my cars.  Bruce Roe

Those oe calipers were certainly  problematic.  They seized up internally, water  got in, the owners did not use the e brake regularly  and techs had issues repairing or adjusting them. Wasn't just Cadillac either.

Anything is possible, but as others have mentioned problems, why change?

I have driven my '72 hard, and never had any braking problems.

There is little weight on the rear so even drums tend to lock the wheels especially on wet roads
