Title: '55 Cadillac Coupe DeVille Rocker panels
Post by: Nigel jones on May 17, 2010, 09:52:28 PM
Hi all, I have a '55 Coupe Deville that came without rocker panel stainless and the mounting holes filled in.  I have since aquired the correct stainless but not sure how they mount. I have the clips which slide into the upper lip of the trim but cannot figure out how they attach. the bottom edge is self explanatory as it has mounting tabs which I assume take ST  screws into the rocker.

Any pics or explanation would help.

Thx,

Nigel Jones, Canada

Nigel,

See http://www.restorationspecialties.com/2009%20Catalog%20ebook/2009%20Catalog%20ebook.pdf on page 137 it shows the type of clip. There should be rectangle openings at the rocker panel to insert these clips in to hold the SS panel in place. My 1956 sedan has 6 equally placed on the length of the rocker panel, the two at the ends are about 1.5” from the edges, and the openings are 0.3” W x 0.6” L and about 2.5” from the top bend (door side) of the rocker.

Good luck..!

Jose, thx for the info. I have the clips but they are very rigid and have little or no spring to them, I'm assuming they are used only to position the strips while the lower tabs and screws do the actual attaching. Is this correct or do the clips actually snap into place?

Thx again,

Nigel

Nigel,

These clips should have two tips (back face) one is solid and the second is on the bendable tab, these goes inside the opening on the rocket panel. The drawing on page 137 of RSS catalog shows these tips.  It will be best to bend this tab just enough allowing the clip to go in with light pressure, once inside you could use a small flat head screwdriver to bend the tab slightly and secured it in place.

If you some pictures, just shoot me a PM..!

Good luck..!

Old topic but just right to the point. I have similar situation with '55 moldings as Nigel.

Clips have been already discussed and they can found at restorationspecialties. I'm just wondering how those are mounted to the car? Does anybody have pictures?
