Title: Engine mounting - 1957 Biarritz
Post by: 57CaddyBiarritz on May 30, 2013, 07:58:08 PM
This feels like a silly question, but when putting the engine back onto the chassis, I couldn't figure out which side of the motor mounts the engine is to sit.  You'll see in the pictures, I have the passengers side sitting on the back of the mount and the drivers side on the front of the mount.  It seems to fit on either side and only moves it in either direction about an inch, but I just don't know the correct way it should sit.

I should have taken more pictures when removing it, but this is my first engine removal/re-install, so help is appreciated.

Thanks!

If you inverse the engine mounts, you will not be able to install the engine on the frame. The picture is from a 1960 engine, but the mounts are identical. You installed the mounts correctly.
Good luck with your engine!

Thanks!  So you have the engine on the passenger side sitting on the back of the mount, as do I.  But currently, the drivers side on my engine is sittiing on the other end (front) of the mount, and it seems to work (I guess that would be opposite to the passenger side).  Is that also correct?

Yes, this is correct. If you would install it like the passenger side, the engine would not go into the frame.
