Hi, I am in final negociation to buy a 1957 eldo Brougham (#144). I'm looking for the number on the engine and on the frame. Does somebody have pictures identify exactly the place where it suppose to be. Thank you in advance. Sorry about my english :) I'm better in french.

The VIN is stamped on a flat machined surface from the block, just in front of the passenger cylinder head, as well as on the frame, also on the passenger side, right behind the front engine support. You have to clean both places because the stamping is not very deep.
The shop manual has pictures from both locations. If you need it, I have an original 1957 Brougham shop manual supplement, in decent shape, but you will also need the regular 1957 Cadillac shop manual.
Are you located in France?
Canada.

How do you know he's in Canada?
Sure would be nice to have people's (general) location noted to know (about) where they are located......

Good luck on the purchase. You should check out and join the Eldorado Brougham Chapter as it is the place for these cars.

I added the location.
Thanks Mr Zimmermann for the info. the seller has these manuals.
As described in an earlier post,... I found the number on the top of the frame just behind the upper contol arm on the pass side. This one was proceeded and followed by a star stamp. I used a yellowish piece of chalk to highlight it better.
It was tougher to find the engine number but I easialy located it and documented it ( again with chalk) when I had the ac pump off and the water pump, ( for replacement) My photos are not on this device but on my phone, I will try and post those later. GKC
When did they switch to putting the numbers on the driver’s side or left side?
In 59 and 60 and other newer years the numbers are down on the frame on the drivers side behind the radiator support on the flat part of the frame. Engine numbers are also on the left side on the casting of the block above the oil pan.
Wow, this topic was 3 years old in July.
