Title: More questions on my 1957 Series 62
Post by: Cadillac Jack 82 on October 01, 2015, 11:07:21 AM

Hi folks...a few more questions for all of those here who own/have owned a 1957 Caddy.  They are:

1.  Do I have to remove the back seat to remove the package shelf in the rear?  I found the reason my rear speaker doesn't work...its original and completely destroyed due to heat.  It needs to be replaced by removing the package shelf since the screws come in from the top.

2.  Horn ring is on the loose side.  In a previous post someone mentioned adjustment screws on the back which I have failed to locate.  Where exactly are these adjustment screws?

3.  Right hand auto cancel works but the left hand doesn't work 100% of the time (more like 10%).  Is this an indication the turn signal indicator mechanism needs to be replaced or adjusted?

Thanks!

1.  You may get lucky and be able to remove the retining nuts from the bottom.

2.  There are two allen head screws between the chrome bezel and the painted spoke for adjustment.

3.  Indicator mechanism probably on the way out.

Thanks but going back to #2...how do I access those allen screws?  Also going back to #1 I still need to remove the original speaker which is situated under the package tray.

Allen screws are accessable from the rear of the steering wheel. Shine a flashlight at the back of the chrome bezel and you will see two allen heads close to the center emblem. Be careful adjusting them as the piece they screw into is pot metal.

The speaker should be accessible from the trunk if it is factory installed.

Where's your shop manual...  gotta get one.

The skewed horn ring could also be contributing to your turn signal issue.  I remember oiling the canceling cam bushings on my car years ago.

Walter...its on my list of things to get.  I've always had shop manuals for my cars I've just not picked one up for this car yet.

I'll take a look at the steering wheel when its not raining cats and dogs outside.  Hopefully this hurricane drifts out to sea and takes away all this damn rain!

Walter:

Would it be too much to ask to take a photo of the area where you can adjust the horn ring?

If you look behind the wheel spokes, you'll see a notch in the plastic about an inch or so long.  They're in those notchrs.

If I remember, removing the horn ring exposes the turn signal return cam spring.
