Title: 1956 Cad Engine destroyed
Post by: John Washburn CLC 1067 Sadly deceased. on October 14, 2015, 10:03:01 PM
I've had my 1956 Coupe Deville since 1976 or 77. Used to drive it work when I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area daily.

Now many years later it is time to rebuild the engine for the 3rd time.

Take it to the trusted machine shop which I have used in Denver more than once. Get a call and the co-owner says we got bad news. The engine slipped off the jig when we were decking the block and gouged it so it is not repairable. Not a good day.

Found a second 56 block in a town outside Colorado Springs called Fountain. Block was suspect. The guy had wrapped it in saran warp said it turned over when he did this. Of course it did not turn over. Anyway bought the engine.

Machine shop calls today to inform me that block is cracked in three places. Looks like they left it outside and it froze up. Nice.

A 1956, 1957, or 1958 Block would be nice. But no luck in finding one today. Any help would be appreciated.

Next move is to find a 1959 thru 1962 with the tranny and rebuild and install.

Anyone got any of these is the western part of the country? Shipping is expensive, but can work if the engine is good or the newer engine and tranny or good,

Remember this is just a hobby,

The Johnny

Todd,

Thanks for checking. But luckily I found a block in Texas. The cost was high. A fellow member wanted the usual amount for the engine, a glass of wine.

So now crating and shipping to Denver.

Remember this is just a hobby.

Again thanks for checking.
