Title: 1966 Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Post by: 66 Eldo on December 05, 2015, 12:33:55 AM
Can't seem to find an obvious way to replace the LF turn signal bulb on my 66. Are the fasteners hidden? No info in the body manual.

A little frustrating because I replaced the rear tailight bulbs easily without removing the rear bumper and that's supposed to be difficult :-\

Not sure about the '66, but on the '67 the procedure is as follows:
- Open hood and locate the studs and nuts at the back of the turn signal. Loosen the nuts one by one. Be careful not to drop them as it is a pita to recover them.
- Rome the entire light housing (including bezel, lens and light housing.
- Removing the chrome trim and glass. The bubl can then be replaced.
- Be careful not to break anything. These things can be a little brittle.

Good luck.

Update hints w/ pictures:
They don't  make this simple and after 55 years lots of rusty bolts and cramped spaces.  The shop manual eludes to prying up from the bottom of the housing to release some spring retainer.  Not!  You have to remove the two nuts to remove the housing from the grille.  On the battery side there are half moon cutout you can get a wrench into to access the nuts.  Use penetrating oil and patience!  I also took apart the connectors and cleaned the contacts the best I  could.  There was a funky additional ground that was added to beef up the frame ground to the grille.  That was in poor shape so I added a new ground wire from the radiator support to the grille.  That solved my problem.

If you owned an Eldo in '66, you could afford to have someone else replace the bulb.   No need to bother the owner with such non-sense...

Sounds like info above is combining the turn signal bulb on top of fender, vs the side marker.   There is a spring on the top marker, and can be pried up to change the bulb, but best to push up from bottom and remove the head light housing if worried about the paint on fender (can also try a plastic tool)
