Title: Fall festival, who is going?
Post by: gary griffin on August 10, 2016, 09:02:39 PM

I have always wanted to go to the Gilmore museum and have never been to that area of the USA.  IN WW-II my late uncle served on the submarine Silversides and it is now a museum near the fall festival so I will go there also along with a tour of Chicago. I wanted to go to Detroit but partner absolutely refuses to go there. She is overcautious I think.

I'm driving my '49 there.  Want to see the museum and have never been to Michigan other than Detroit.  Also, didn't make the GN this year so want to attend a large CLC event.

I plan to be there as I will have a short presentation to give along with Glenn Brown on Sunday afternoon. I hope to drive the '81 Seville. It's really a nice meet. It's only about a three hour drive for us. You guys will have a great time. We have a beautiful campus.

I will be flying in from Seattle. Too far to drive in the time I have budgeted for the trip. Renting a car in Chicago. Among other things partner signed up for the Queens drive and I volunteered to judge 40's Cadillac.  I am even hoping to take the lesson and drive a model T.  I got my driving license in 1956 and there were still a few Model T's around, but I never got to drive one.

Gary,

Until he died 10 years ago, my uncle Clarence had a Model T.  He bought it when in his 80s as it was same as the first car he owned when age 16 in in the early 1930s.  I'd help him work on it from time to time, in exchange for which he gave me driving lessons.  After struggling a bit I finally mastered driving forward.  The next lesson was to be driving in reverse, but he passed away before we got around to it so I never did learn to go backwards (which seemed very complicated to me).  Just keep in mind that Cadillac Hydra-matics are merely 2 Model T planetary transmissions one behind the other along with a fluid coupling.

Driving my 85 Eldorado from Colorado Springs.  Stopping in Chicago to pick up my brother.  If you haven't been to Hickory Corners it is a beautiful place and plenty of car museums to visit.  See you there.

I am coming down from East Lansing, about an hour away.  The call is out for convertibles to attend.  We are looking forward to it and meeting other members.
