Title: Cadillac Escala concept
Post by: jdemerson on August 20, 2016, 06:56:52 AM
Cadillac is developing more sport utilities (CUVs) in addition to the 2017 XT5, as that segment of the market is expanding and Cadillac doesn't yet have the bases covered. So many observers expected an announcement of a new CUV model between the XT5 and the Escalade. The announcement of the Escala at Pebble Beach thus seems a surprise.

Initial reactions in this forum have been mixed, and react mostly to styling. Of course styling is subjective and there's a lot to be said for seeing the car in person before making a judgement. I find the design as more like the Audi A7/S7, and that is a very highly regarded and stunning model in the view of many auto journalists and enthusiasts. But the design of the Escala is also distinctly Cadillac-derived in the front and rear, and that seems a good thing.

Other aspects of the Escala are especially interesting. It is based on the CT6 platform, so is likely to be relatively light for its category. But it has a 127 inch wheelbase -- 5 inches longer than the CT6. It's overall length is 210.5 inches. It has a new 4.2 liter twin-turbo V8. It has an innovative (and, from the photos, quite stunning) interior. Thus it would appear to be just what many on this forum have been advocating for the future of Cadillac for some time -- a flagship model that might reclaim "Standard of the World". I want to see it up close, and I hope Cadillac builds it. It would be a welcome complement to the line of forthcoming CUVs. I wish Cadillac would show it at the Gilmore Museum a month from now...

Check out the video in the right column halfway down the web page, and the image at the end of it.

I'm not crazy about the advertising, but there are some interesting images.

Yes, large great looking RWD V-8 Cadillac sedan - just what I would want to buy.  If they build it, it will be high on my list to buy.  I have started saving for a cool new car in a few years.  Thanks for posting this - exciting times ahead.  One of my neighbors drives a CT6 in black with 3.6l V-6 and it is stunning.  This looks even cooler, plus V-8!

Can this thread get merged with the other Pebble Beach thread?

Escala is 2.5 inches wider than CT6.  And the 4.2 V8 will have about 500 h.p.  Pretty interesting concept--potentially a true flagship for Cadillac.
