Title: 1913 Cadillac truck for sale in Seattle
Post by: gary griffin on August 23, 2016, 12:46:17 PM
I noticed a 1913 Cadillac truck on eBay, and it is near me.  It was converted to a truck for the Bellingham Washington Franklin dealer when it was new according to the seller.

I am considering buying it but not sure if I have the stamina to do such a daunting project?

If any club member has an interest I will be glad to inspect it for them and get more pictures than on eBay. Seller was restoring his other 1913 and this was purchased as parts car but  he kept it and began buying parts to restore it also.

I hope someone in the club buys it or I will be tempted??  I get the feeling the reserve price is near his "Buy it now" price of  $22K

eBay ends Thursday

HI , Gary ! Did you say you need help resisting temptation ? Like those folk who put down the bottle and join fellow enlightened abstainers with a support group ? My brother , you have but to ask. Consider this : Yes , you may or may not have the energy NOW. If that is a factor , ask yourself if you will have the energy 5 or 6 years on. ? Then consider that 1913 Cadillac parts do not pop up like mushrooms after a few good soakers in the Pacific Northwest early Fall. ? And this old Cad seem a bit pricey to me for a project car these days. Just because it is nearby......................... ? Better yet , score that '66 limo , cruise it around the Great Lakes and Hershey , and home before Winter ! But call me if you need more negativity ! All the best , my energetic friend !  -  Carl

His price is WAY too high for what's there! I mean not there!
That whole bag of bones needs to go to Oz or New Zealand. It's already RHD. They'll make a great  little ute out of it.

Thanks for the reality check Carl. It comes at an appropriate time in my life. Last winter we moved my folks into Assisted living (How many 75 year old's can say that) and I just sold the house I had built for them 15 years ago. Also concurrently I am preparing to sell my 1947 Triumph 1800 project realizing I need to spend more time with my grandchildren while they are young enough to influence them.
I figured this car could be mechanically refreshed and be driven as is as a survivor. Unique custom vehicle with a great history here in Washington. Value??? I was thinking I could subcontract the majority of the work.
The apparently  new hood panels were the obstacle I saw although I do not know how much work I personally would have to do to the mechanical side of it nor how hard parts resourcing would be especially the windshield and missing door and fender? I imagine Lights, trim, and ??? would be biggest problems?
Current owner has a serviceable 1913 and has paid $300 a month storing this one for 19 years according to him.
I was hoping this post would interest another member and I could go over and investigate the car for him. I would hate to see it rodded!

Is there any value in re-purposed cars like this one? I would hate to dump a lot of money into it then not get most back for grandchildren's  college fund later on?

Way too much money.  A CLC member here in the Atlanta area recently bought a gorgeous running-driving 1920 Type 59 touring car just under show quality for $40K.  In my opinion, that truck isn't worth $10K in that condition.  Keep in mind that in general classic Cadillacs--that is, the late '20s through mid-'30s are very expensive, but all other things being equal, earlier cars sell for much less.

All of the comments are appreciated. I looked at the car today and at his sister car, 1913 phaeton nicely restored to very nice driver quality.

I was impressed with the car although he probably thinks it is worth more than I do. A lot more complete than the pictures show.

Purchase price is not as important as the cost to end up with it on the road. I can see a serious expenditure in getting it on the road with not much done to the body. I will be curiously watching the bid.  Maybe throw a late one on it also??
