Title: 1960 Eldorado Biarritz wiring question
Post by: Whit on August 25, 2016, 07:16:00 AM
I need to replace the door jam switches on my '60 Biarritz. I note that there are 3 wires that go to these switches, each with a white tracer. It seems that the purpose of the switch is only to ground the wires when the door is opened. The aftermarket switches that I find mostly have a one wire connection. Can I safely combine the 3 wires to use this type switch, or is there a switch available that has 3 wire attachment lugs?
There is also a black wire that comes out of the same harness that I don't know where it goes, not shown on the wiring diagram.
Thanks for any input you may have to offer.   Whit

Just went through this on my 61 Eldorado. They have 4, 3, 2, and 1 wire switches. You can use a 4 for a 3, a 3 for a 2, etc. but not the other way. Open the switch up and check the copper hat that goes on top of the spring. You may be able to clean and "bend out" the legs. If not, there is a guy on E Bay that is selling one for 50 bucks. (HINT - 63 and 64 Riviera used the 3 way.) Also, always mount the red wire in between the other two. Good luck

Whit,

There was a thread about this a few months ago.

The reason the switch has so many wires on it is because the map light an other lights are also wires through it.  I think the thread also said that different lights come on when the drivers door is opened than when the passenger door is opened.

These are hard to find so the info above is very useful.

Peter:   You said that 'they' have 4-3-2 terminal door jam switches. Who are 'they'?

Thanks Whit
