Title: rewiring 1939 Lasalle tail lights
Post by: HFDJR1959 on June 25, 2017, 10:27:26 PM
Any advice how to take apart the bulb assembly and rewire.  I believe I have a short within the bulb housing.  Seems like either the parking light or the brake light wire insulation has disintegrated  around the little springs that give tension to hold the bulb in place.  If the springs rub against the bulb housing then there would be a short.  The housing seems to be pressed in place, so I don't want to mess it up.

Thanks,  HD

Repaired dozens of these. If it's not the wire fraying then the small Bakelite bases may be broken.  These bases with their wire are available. 'Bobs' sell them for the twin or single connectors.

Another vendor that sells parts to restore / rewire tail lights etc. is Restoration Supply, Escondido CA.  www.restorationstuff.com

I've redone several lights of all kinds using their stuff.
