Title: New Wiring Harness for 1955 CDV
Post by: 5390john on December 21, 2017, 02:36:47 AM
SO.....
I'm 6 years into restoring my '55 CDV, full frame off, all new or rebuilt everything, etc., etc.
I'm almost done, just finishing up a few things, today I completed diagnosing all the electrical "bugs" that came with installing a brand new wiring harness without any knowledge of auto electrical wiring.

I feel compelled to give my fellow club members a heartfelt recommendation for the company that made my replacement, an EXACT original, wiring harness, YNZ Yesterdays Parts in Redlands CA.
They made me a PRECISE and EXACT replacement harness, down to the last detail. The really nice part was that all the wires were the correct color and were numerically labeled, with an instruction sheet that referenced each wire and where it connected. All very, very helpful.

Not being electrically inclined, I don't have innate expertise to diagnose the inevitable problems that come up, even in a system as relatively simple as a '55 Caddy. And if you've ever done a major restoration, you KNOW the problems will come up and make you ABSOLUTELY NUTS!!!

Gene at YNZ has taken an extraordinary amount of time with me on the phone to work through all of the MANY issues involved with getting the electrical system to work properly. He helped me with diagnosing unknown faulty switches, bad grounds, loose connections and on, and on, and on......
Many lengthy phone calls.

I can second this opinion. I have recently finished the install on my 1951 Series 60. I bought a complete kit from headlight to taillight and all points between. The wiring diagram that they included is second to none. Having the wires labeled to match was invaluable.

Hearing that 6-Volt system start up as it originally did was worth the price and the slight heartache of soldering some of those hard to reach areas.
