Title: Jim's Battery Mfg. (former Antique Auto Battery) is Shipping
Post by: Mike Josephic CLC #3877 on July 25, 2018, 05:56:34 PM
Just wanted to let everyone know that the guy who
purchased Antique Auto Battery's business has started
shipping.  This also applies to Battery Central Mall,
since Jim's Battery Mfg. (new name) supplies
them.

I had a battery for my 1955 Eldorado on back order
since April and it arrived today.  Looks great, nicely
packed and exactly as the originals.

They are shipping back orders first and have a large
backlog, so I suggest calling before placing a new
order.

Jim's Battery Mfg.
602 W. Rayen Avenue
Youngstown, OH 44502
330-480-0755
(on line ordering not up yet)

Just another update.

Received a SECOND battery I had on order -- I also
needed one for my '73 Eldorado.  This arrived today.

Looks like they are trying hard to catch up.  Good news
for those of you waiting.

This is fantastic news. I was lucky and ordered and received an original style replacement battery for my 1964 Coupe de Ville before the other companies folded, but like to know that they are available if and when I need another one.

If I was a betting man, I'd wager that your warranty is as gone as the company who built it.

The warranty, if I recall correctly, was only for 12
months anyway.  My last two batteries from them
lasted more than 8 years.

You mean like the battery I ordered from Battery Central Mall in December 2017 for $359 that arrived in early May was installed and the case broke in 24 hours then failed to hold a charge a week later was shipped back and I've heard nothing? A warranty like that Dan?  >:(

Their batteries were warrantied for 48 months. When you buy a company you buy the assets and liabilities.

He probably just bought the equipment and the production rights and not the company and incorporated a new manufacturing company to go into operation.

Only a fool buys the company, you should buy the assets and maybe the tradename and let the old company liabilities die with it.

Very few reasons to ever buy the company itself.

I would imagine the production rights are a license from GM and then a non compete agreement with the old company not to go back into business for a period of time.

My replacement battery came today. Of course there's no way to know if they simply repackaged the broken one
and recharged it.

Oh well

Yes there is some value and yes you can buy a trade name like any other asset. Which is what I said, but there is no way he bought the company he bought the assets and maybe the name. Unless he had bad advice.

Unless you would like to argue with a CPA who has an MBA from an Ivy League school, and I am not BRAGGING. I am saying unless you are involved in business sales your opinion is not likely a good one.

Buying a small company and assuming the company is bad tax advice and bad legal advice but I cannot provide legal advice, good for the seller.

Already chilled here just stating facts.

I never assumed what he did but never am surprised either by what people do. But you seemed to want to quote me like what I said was incorrect.

I stand by what I said, and good luck to the new endeavor. I have already received my 1959 Delco battery. I have restricted myself to this style battery since it is so thin and long nothing new will seem to fit the battery tray.

Anybody aware of one that will fit the tray in a 1959?

At Hershey last year, (or the year before), I was at the Antique Battery display booth. If memory serves me correct this was the company that has since folded. The fellow behind the counter I think was a guy named "Jim" who described himself as a tech guy for the company. Wonder if he is the one who took over. He was very knowledgeable and seemed more like an owner to me. Clay/Lexi

Yes, that's correct -- Jim took over Antique Auto
Battery's business.  I'm glad that he did since they
were the only manufacturer (as far as I know) of
the repro batteries.  All the other outfits just resell.

I bought two from him last June and they are doing
just fine.

I bought one from Jim last October for my ‘55. It’s been perfect - looks great and is very powerful.
Jim and his staff were great as well! Very personable, honest, reliable. At the time I needed the battery ASAP for my son’s wedding. Jim promised they’d make it up especially for me, and it would arrive at my house in Los Angeles within a short time. It did - even a couple of days early.
I would do business with Jim again in a heartbeat.

Are transporting batteries still allowed? I wanted to order a vape from gearbest, and I wasn't able because the vape contains a battery, and batteries are restricted for transportation. I have ordered something that didn't contain any batteries, but it was delivered so slow. I always checked the epacket tracking (https://www.packages24.com/carriers/china-ems-tracking)  and wondered why it is staying in the port of Singapore for such a long period of time. I got it after a month after I had done the order. I don't think this is a good result for such a popular website.

Yes, no problem.  It's lithium batteries that are not
allowed for transport by air freight.  They have to go
ground only.

Other than that, I'm not aware of any restrictions for
lead /acid types which includes car batteries.  They
go via truck anyway due to their weight.

With the antique reproduction battery market in flux, judges should not deduct as long as you have a correct Delco battery in your car. Cadillac dealers still sell the battery my 1963 requires.
