Title: 1967 Texas Plates for 67 Cadillac
Post by: richardbergquist on October 01, 2018, 04:29:20 PM
I now have antique plates. Anyone knows if the five year antique reg is transferable and what other costs would be involved with switching to a pair of old 1967 original Texas plates?

Richard,

Check the TxDMV site for details -> https://www.txdmv.gov/txdmv-forms/cat_view/21-forms/23-motorists/159-license-plates/160-antique-classic-custom-vehicle-or-street-rod

I do not believe the previous owner registration is transferable to the new owner, but if the previous owner was registered as an antique with the 5 years renovation, the new owner could apply for the same.

You can also check with your local tax assessor office for details, and the plaques would need to be validated at your local district office.

Good luck..!

Hey, yeah I saw that. It tells me that it works. That’s great. I already had it registered but with antique plates. I went to the Department of Public Safety today to ask about the cost of putting an old plate on the car. The information lady didn’t know but I could ask a clerk she said and wait the 2,5 hours in line.

That's the problem with Year of Manufacturer plates.  The clerks at the DMV don't have a clue about them.
You just have to be persistent.   I think I've had to wait for another clerk who knew how to process them every time I have gone to the CT DMV to get them approved.

But it's worth it.   Vintage plates are the icing on the cake.

Richard,

Unfortunately that was my case when I had my plate validated at the local registration office, only one person was aware or experienced how to check the older plates. No computer records on file it was done manually from a thick binder book.  :o

Once I got the green light I returned to get the final registration, in my case I had to take the car with the plates installed so they can visually check it, now not sure if that is the case today.   ???

Good luck..!

That’s so frustrating that nobody knows! I am bidding on a personalized 1967 plate on eBay now. I imagine that would be even more difficult to get a go ahead on.

Very much the icing on the cake Dave. The Texas Antique plates look like they’re from a play mobile cardboard plate so a nice 1967 plate would be so much nicer.
