my 57 sedan Deville didn't come with a well fitting air cleaner ( the opening/hole is larger than the carb diameter ( carb is like 4"+). I can't seem to find a stock air cleaner assembly, but found plenty of options for earlier style (pre 57)...wondering if this will fit under the hood...as I don't want to buy it and discover its too tall. Anyone have any info on this? I am looking on Ebay and eying options there. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1951-1956-Cadillac-Oldsmobile-Style-Retro-Air-Cleaner-Kit-w-Filter-Caddy-Olds/381050168891?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l9372
That's not the correct air breather for your 57. Use this one:

Someone has modified that one slightly by cutting a hole in the metal to the left....but that's the type that's correct for your car. They pop up on Ebay from time to time...usually for 60-200 bucks depending on condition.
I have a 1957 air cleaner assembly. It was media blasted and primed a few years ago. No rot or holes. I can post pictures if interested. $150 plus shipping. Thanx Frank
cadparts: yes, please, or email me specifically
57shark82: thanks for the link, thats the first I've seen, bummer its messed up a bit, but do you have any idea on my question? that is , will the earlier air cleaners fit/clear the hood of the '57? I know the 57 sits lower overall, including hood height....
Are paper filters ( modern) available for that oil bath assembly that don't have to use oil for cleaning? aka relying on the modern paper filter element to do the cleaning.
Kelton,
Here are the air cleaner pics. The opening for the carb is 4 1/8 inches.
Oil isn't that hard to use. Its also cheaper and easier to clean.
Thanks everyone, I'll keep looking for one then....I may get a generic air cleaner in the meantime. My current one doesn't even fit right (opening that goes ON the carb it too big.
K,
What am I missing here.
I don't know the seller from SHMO, but an OEM air cleaner, even primed, seems a reasonable price.
Maybe coming from NY to Col. is pricey.
Don't mean to put you on the spot, but this post tweaked my interest, also coming off an earlier post about rude sellers and their pricing.
If I'm sticking my nose in where it does not belong - just tell me to .... off
Have fun,
Steve B.
Whats wrong with Franks air cleaner,,,$150 too much? I dont get it :-\ :-\

I have a couple 57 air cleaners too if you are looking for driver quality instead, no holes, $75 each + shipping.
I can get better pics tomorrow, but you can spot them under the NOS Sabre wheel center caps :) Chuck

Hi guys. Only a 57 cleaner will fit under the lower profile hood.
PS. Hey Steve please find me a 57 air conditioner blower fan that goes in the fibreglass housing on the cowl to replace the one stolen by the prick who got let into my shed.
