Title: Tires
Post by: nysdarkblue on June 07, 2019, 07:02:44 AM
What year were the 225/75/15 Uniroyal Royal Seal tires with the gold stripe discontinued? To my understanding, it was 1996. Thank you!

Cadillac stopped using them during the 1992 model year because that was the size used on the RWD Broughams. The 1993-1996 Fleetwoods & Fleetwood Broughams used 235-70-15. However Roadies and Caprices probably still used 225-75-15 through 1996.

I am not sure if it was 1996 or not, but it was in the mid 1990's.  It was one of a number of the puncture resistant tires on the market during that time period. Though very attractive, the tire was worse than bias ply (if left to sit for long periods) to ride as if they were "flat spotted". The sealant product would settle to the low spot with enough time and would give the vehicle a less than smooth ride. I bought an extra set of wheels and put different radials on them to drive and saved the Royal Seals for shows on the last 1992 Cadillac Brougham I had.
