Title: '53 Under Seat heater fan
Post by: Brett S on April 14, 2020, 05:52:19 PM
Does anyone know how it's wired? Or know of a replacement one? I'm trying to check if it still works but I can't figure out how it's wired. I looked on the service manual and it shows there's 2 wires, a feed and a ground. But I can't find the locations...
Might not even work, I don't know. ..

The fan motor has two wires.  One is grounded under the seat; the other runs under the carpet & behind the dash to the heater switch.  It's on the same circuit as the defroster blower (mounted to top of left inner fender under the hood).  Goes thru a 20 amp fuse.  Does your defroster work?

The motor is shot. I pulled it out and tested it on the bench. It doesn't spin. Do you know if anyone makes a replacement?

I bought a replacement motor off eBay but it didn't fit.  Wound up sending my old one to D&M restoration for a rebuild.  dandmrestoration.com.  They did a nice job- tested ok but I haven't installed it yet.

Do you know if it's a Clockwise or Counter Clockwise Rotation?

Lots of motors can be recovered.  If it draws no current, it
likely just needs a new brush job.  If it draws a lot of current,
the bearings are likely locked.  But those can be taken apart,
cleaned up, and oiled, and put back in service.  I make sure
there are oil holes before putting a motor back.
good luck, Bruce Roe

Just checked mine.  Rotation is CCW looking at the output shaft.

Thanks. I think I'll just replace the motor

When I got a replacement blower motor (made in Asia) it fit,
but did not have the power to do the work.  I went to the yard
for a used one, now I might try to fix it.  Bruce Roe
