Title: New power steering pump on Saturday!
Post by: Cape Cod Fleetwood on March 11, 2021, 11:24:14 PM
With an 'open house' here Saturday morning this is a great time to go to the House of Amster.

Its the last pump to be replaced on The Ark, I don't care.
Its leaking a little and will scream sometimes, Michael said it wasn't a big deal, just watch the fluid level.

JUST REPLACE EVERYTHING PLEASE

So a new pump from Summit Racing (these are getting rare folks, I'm keeping the old one), new high pressure line
and 3 new Gates belts from Rock Auto. Refill with Dexron 6. Low pressure side was already replaced.

And I've got a b1tch list as always, we'll see how much time he has Saturday, wx looks excellent.

Had The Ark out last night, we went out for Chinese food and ran some errands. Wx is excellent for tomorrow, if I get my chores
done in time we'll be off to social non-distance as always with friends tomorrow night.

Even with the leaking knuckle in the drive shaft there's no loss of fluid indicated on the tranny stick when the engine is hot,
and that engine is hot when I get home and check it. There's always fluid in the pee pans strategically placed under
the shaft. Whatever. That'll get done.

Just wish we were doing body work... The car is too big for the shop (LOL!) so we agreed to do it piece by piece: the trunk lid, then
the rear door, right fender, left fender, then paint what's left and add the right side mirror and replace the rear bumper chrome piece.
This way the car is only overwhelming the shop for a few days at a time.

Love this car....

I'm the budget Queen honey, Ark money is already appropriated and separate from everything else in life.

Fini! New pump, new Gates belts, new high pressure line, new bolts on the pump and arm,  then Michael decided since everything
else was new to fabricate a new low pressure side. I thought the car steered well before, now, its like buttah. Posting a pic, which
will probably be sideways, its this site.

Started having issues again with the trunk lock, brought along some Kroil and douched the cylinder and cable, really freed it
up. But it still wasn't locking 4 out of 5 times. Michael comes over with a socket, loosened the bolts that hold the lock system to the
body of the car, pulls up on it, tightens the bolts. Perfecto.

We'll back there in 2 weeks to finish off my current b1tch list, minor things.

Jeez I didn't realize how noisy that pump was, the engine is SO quiet now. And I was stunned at how quiet it was after rebuild.

A very good day to be me, a very good day to be The Ark. He's going out tomorrow, I have to teach and he'll make superb transportation.

Thanks for the lead on the pump Laurie! Your ark is beautiful.

If you are looking for the ported vacuum switch that is broken off in your picture (see circled area), there are a few on ebay and they don't come up often. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ported-Vacuum-Switch-for-Cadillac-Some-1969-1970-1971-1972-1973-1974-1975-1976/274365245871?hash=item3fe17169af:g:~s0AAOSwADVgGDfg

Also, it looks as if the distributor is installed incorrectly. It will run just fine, but will be technically incorrect. The vacuum advance on the distributor is about 180 degrees off.  With the ported vacuum switch installed, you would have a very difficult time adjusting the dwell on the distributor.

Hope this is helpful info..

I saw that when the engine came back after rebuild.
With no Cadillac shows in this state coming up its irrelevant. Fortunately there are MANY open shows on the
docket now, doubt anyone will notice that. When I get to wide open Florida who's having Cadillac shows that
will need to be addressed for sure.
