Title: Tasmanian Killer Ants? Bruce, is it true???
Post by: Andrew 10642 on October 07, 2005, 10:57:25 PM
Bruce,

Youre such a ardent supporter of your homeland that I was amazed to find out that it has the most dangerous ant in the world!  Was watching the Discovery channel and they profiled every nasty ant the world over, Army Ants, Driving Ants, and finally the Tasmanian "Jumping Jack" Ant, that sends many allergic victims into shock.

You know Bruce, I was hoping to visit one day, but the Killer Ant thing holds me back.  I dont visit Florida because the bugs are too big!!

Were they making these ants more dangerous than they really are?  Dont worry, I wont show up without permission, regardless of your answer!!

I think Bruce has been pulling the wool over our eyes.  I have an Aussie customer and she claims that Taz is like living in hell.

Well Andrew,

Dont believe Michael.   He chickened out from coming down here.   Not enough Pool Tables for his liking.

But, yes, we have, as well as Australia, some of the worlds deadliest creatures, but that doesnt worry me, because I dont mess with any of them.

I leave the Sharks to their own water.   I dont mess with snakes so they dont mess with me.   I leave the Spiders alone, and I stay away from the Casinos.   And, I driv at the Speed Limit as I dont like giving money to the Government.

Notice that he avoided the killer ants question.

Michael,

I didnt avoid the Killer Ant question on purpose.   I just stay away from those nasty little critters.

The Inch-men can also give you a nasty reaction, but at least you can see them at a distance.

A Jumping Jack gave me a nasty bite one day I was mowing the Lawn.   Probably didnt like me going near his nest with my mower.

You had best come on down and see the sights for yourself.

Bruce,

Are you surrounded by killer ants, which limit your ability to speak freely of the danger?  LOL

You know we are just jealous of the natural beauty of that island (is Tasmania too large to be an island?)!  But if you need it, we will send some bug spray!!

Andrew,

I just went outside between Add Breaks on the Tele (Bathurst Car Racing today and tomorrow) but couldnt see any "killer Ants".   I dont think they like the rain either.

Actually, I havent seen any since we got rid of a Flowering Gum tree that we had in front.

Funny thing, I dont get to see much of the wildlife since my cars dont break down much these days.

The last time I saw some huge spiders was down in Florida in 2002 when we broke down on our way to Memphis TN and went into the trees on the side of the road for shade and was confronted by two big spiderwebs with residents in their centre.   It was 95 degrees with a humidity index of 125 and I left the buggers to themselves till the tow truck arrived.

Man, I hate spiders.   And, thanks for the offer of the bug spray, but when you come down here,m you wont need any, trust me.

Having spent some time (not enough) with Bruce and Bron, in March this year, Gita and I can say with honesty, Tasmania is an island paradise ...despite "all (its) creatures great and small."

Mark you, we saw the island in the Fall (for southern hemisphere dwellers).  I guess winter is much less appealing.  What say, Bruce ?  Well, you and I could keep ourselves busy with old Cadillacs, but what about the gals ?

Gday Yann,

Sure Yann, they could keep us up to date with Coffee or Beer, and food at meal times.

And, at least, if it was in Winter, we wouldnt freeze as it is always warm in the Garage/Workshop.   No need to go outside, except to refill the fridge, then the girls could do that while they are out shopping.

Gday Bruce,
You guys are the best!!! The next time your on the middle of the globe in Florida, look me up!. My E-mail address is in sight for all to read, you know where to click to find it.
Well let the girls go shopping and well cruise in my 59SdV or my "new" 70 drop top I just picked up. Im in Ft Lauderdale. We can cruise South Beach, Miami and check out all the beautiful semi-clothed women there. Who Knows what the bank account will look like when the girls are done shopping. You might be stuck here. :)
No worries about critters...You have Crocs...We have Allys. Gators that is! LOL
As for the ants, WD-40 is the best ant killer I have found. And that is about all its good for.
Stay cool Mate, summer is coming!!

The best method I have found to kill ants, especially in the nest, is to grab your Oxy-Acetelene torch, turn the Acetelene and fill the nest with that.

But, make sure that there is no naked flames any within eyesight.   Ants dont like Acetelene, and the foundations wont like the resulting explosion if you do get a spark.
