Howdy!
So the body shop is removing the dashboard this week from my 1940 series 72.
As long as it is out I should have the gauges cleaned and checked, clock redone, radio restored, and the old di-noc dash needs to be refinished. Oh, and I have a fuel sending unit that needs restoration also.
I spoke with Bob at
www.American-classic.com and what I like about this outfit is that they do it all. I send them the dash all together, they send it back fully assembled.
My questions:
1) Does anyone have any experience with American-Classic?
2) Who else might you reccomend for the various jobs here?

Joe, It will be impossible to fit the dash back in carefully with everything hooked up. It will be heavy, and hard to handle. I have instructions on how to remove 1941 dashes, and it should work for the 1940. If you are going to grain the dash, Joe Goss of Lafayette, IN. (765) 742-8547 did a fantastic job on my 1941. About $700, with you being fully satisfied. Hope this is of interest.

I already looked him up, based on a previous post you sent me, but directory assistance gave me a bad number. I will certainly try this one out.
And BTW, by hooked up, I meant gauges installed on the dash, but not wired up, and I was not counting the radio. :)

Joe - Re your fuel tank sending unit restoration...get in touch with John Wolf, in Willoughby OH - 888-309-0453. <antiqueinstrument.com>. They have a flat rate for any sending unit, regardless of what it needs, and they do fine work. Last one I had done was $95 (incl. S/H) a few years ago. Dont know what it is now.

How much should I budget for the Speedometer, odo., fuel, battery, etc, gauges (cant remember what is on the 40 cad. dash).
No help on the guage rebuilding in your area nor do I recall the exact differences between the 40 72 and the 41 75. However, I did not have any difficulty reinstalling the dash on my 41 7533 with all the lights, trim and the guages installed and wired. (less the radio and heater control) I did have the help of a fellow club member but doing it this way saved a lot of time and kept me from standing on my head to do the wiring. Its a lot like everything else... get some help and take your time.
