Member Needs Help On 1976 Eldorado Estate Pricing

Hi All,

It is now April 15, 2010 and the 76 Eldorado is still in the same spot. I want to make my mom an offer this week. Is 10 grand fair? As I said it has not ran in over 10 years and has been sitting in her garage, bad gas and all.

I still say that whatever the price is, I don't think everyone is going to be happy, but $10,000.00 is a realistic price, having regard to it being sitting for so long.

In my opinion, $10k sounds a bit high but $3k seems low. 

Check out the pictures and description of this 76 Eldo, it had about the same mileage as your father's car; I believe it sold for the 'upper teens'.  The difference, this Eldo was not only in excellent condition cosmetically (paint, top, interior) but was also maintained mechanically in near perfect condition.    http://s756.photobucket.com/albums/xx209/CollectorcarCharlie/

Another thought, have you had a vintage vehicle appraiser inspect the car and provide a professional opinion?  Members here can comment but really unless you see the car in person its hard to determine a fair value.  The appraiser's fee would be a well spent couple hundred dollars to (try) to ensure family harmony for years to come. 

If you need assistance in locating an appraiser, ask a local club member, or contact your local auto insurance agent or a vintage auto insurance agent for a recommendation.   DON'T use an auctioneer or someone who appraises new cars; you want someone who specializes in vintage vehicles.

If it really is up in that value range getting an appraisal would be a good thing just for insurance purposes, not to mention the above reasons like keeping peace in the family.

If you really want to be fair, and you want to value the car at $6000.00, you could give your siblings $2000.00 each (there are 2 correct?).

Best way to go about it if they are not happy with that would be to advise them to "have the car professionally restored so that you can sell it at the best price for Mom.  We will each have to put up about $6000.00, bit it will be worth it."

You will see how fast they will want you to take the car off their hands.

Seriously, really nice ones can be had for $10,000 to $15,000 for really nice running low mileage cars.  Yours will need some $$ to get it running right and looking nice.
