I was hoping that some here may have an idea where I could get these trim pieces.  I have some that came with the car but only a few are really "savable".  I can do ding removal and polish but some are really squashed and they are so thin there is very little to work with when you do the final finish on them.  Plus, I don't have a full set of 12 anyway.

Steve, are you out there, you always come through for me...

Regards, ken caskey

I wish I could help. I have one missing on my 37 and I have never come across another in my 11 years of ownership. :-\

Maybe try touching base with these guys.

They look like they carry older years but maybe they can make something for you.

I think they have part of an older kit for my 1929 Roadster.

Thanks guys.  I can always make them.  I have a full shop of tools, lathe, milling machine, etc.  They really aren't hard to duplicate from stainless bar stock or aluminum (then chromed).  Yet, once again, with everything else I have on my plate for this car...

Steve Which one do you need?  I can probably make you one.

Thanks Mike, I'll give them a try.  ;)

Thanks for the link Mike but the 37 Cadillac trim does not fit on the side of the running boards like other cars it consists of 12 pieces running from the body outwards and curving right over the edge.
Your right Ken. They could be made relatively easy using stainless bar if you could get the right size.

Ken,

Do a search on this forum for Northfield Forming.  I believe they make the these trim pieces.  I talked with them a year or so ago about trim for the spare tire covers for a 38.

Steve, I found some standard stainless bar stock that matched the size of the trim pieces on the 38 running boards.  They were easy enough to bend up and polish and from the picture of your running boards I think the 38 trim pieces are the same size.

Tom,  my 38 never had this style at all but a solid chrome casting covering the ends of the boards. Is it LaSalle perhaps that had this.

Steve... ahh that's the rub as they say.  I've tried sourcing stainless bar for this and I can only find ⅜" square.  Which is awful darn close to the width but of course the height is only about 3/16" so I'd have to make a fixture and mill down the material, round the corners, drill and tap for studs, and sand and polish them. 12 or them (sigh).  I'm already wore out and I haven't even started!

I was considering aluminum for ease of the milling part.  Then finish and chrome plate them.  But I'm so far from worrying about that right now with everything else to do.  I know you said 11 years and not one found but since I have a long time before I'll need 'em,  I'll keep looking.  Maybe....

From your photo I'm guessing you are missing one rear one?

Cheers, ken

Steve,

You are right the 38 LaSalle running board trim is different from that of the 38 Cadillac, but the trim looks similar to the trim shown in your picture of the 37 running board.  I found some 0.250" x 0.5" stainless bar stock at the local steel yard, which measures the same size as the bent up sheet metal trim I took off of my car.  I just bent the bar stock to fit, threaded on two attaching studs and polished the outside surface.  Attached are a couple of pictures.

Ken,  Online Metals carries the bar stock for about $3/ft and I'm sure it is available elsewhere for less.

That looks like it turned out really well on your boards Tom. As far as I can see though the size is different on Cadillac and as Ken stated it would have to be milled down.     1/4" x 1/2" is just far too large.  I'll have to see whats available sizes are available here.
