After judging under the new judging procedures at the 2018 GN, and then reading a lot of misinformation on the web, I created a Summary of CLC Judging Page and included it in the August 1963/64 Cadillac Chapter Newsletter.   I copied that information to a Help Page on the 63/64 Cadillac Website (www.6364cadillac.com) which you can see at
http://6364cadillac.ning.com/forum/topics/clc-judging-summary

I have also attached it here as a PDF file.  This was my 1st attempt to summarize and tried to go over everything several times to make sure I did not misstate anything, but if there are errors let me know and will revise in the future.

Note: I am not putting this out there to debate the merits or demerits of the judging system but to just have a 1 page summary that captures the basics of the new process at a high level.  I did not see any single page document like this and thought it would be helpful for our Chapter Members to understand what CLC Grand National judging includes, and thought some of you on the CLC forum might find it interesting.  I am not on the judging committee, but have judged 4 times under the old process, and now one time under the new process, and having just read the 2018 Judging Manual cover to cover... twice, believe I have some insight into the process.  Anyway, I thought it was worth sharing.

Jason, thank you for undertaking this project and posting your excellent overview. I note that you include a link to the full Judging Manual for 2018, and that is also very helpful. One can learn a lot by simply using the search function on the big manual, even if you don't have the time to read all 72 pages. I think that your single-page overview is a terrific place to begin to get informed.

I have judged at a CLC Fall Festival under the old rules (and am a regular judge at other multi-marque shows). I followed Bill Anderson's development of the new rules and i think they are a big improvement. The general rules don't say a lot about the Touring Classes, and I'm interested in knowing more about how they have actually worked at the GN and Fall Festivals. Perhaps I'll share some thoughts about further changes that might be considered for coming years, in a separate post. But in general I think the present rules represent a job very well done and a significant step forward.

Thanks John. Seeing that there are 560 potential deduction points spanning 112 categories for 1966 and prior cars, and 610 potential deduction points spanning 122 categories for 1967 later cars, I think it should be clear that a couple of authenticity issues is not going to knock you out of contention for an award ... unless perhaps you are at the point you are going after that Senior Wreath or Senior Crown.  It also conveys the fact that we have a truly comprehensive judging system that takes a lot of hard work by the judge's on Show Day!

Does this excerpt from the manual "Display-only cars are included in the chronological order integrated with
the judged cars." means that I can have my 68 Fleetwood parked with the other 67-70 class cars even though I am not interested in having it judged at the next GN meet?
1968 Fleetwood Purchased in 1981

Yes. Display only cars are lined up in chronological order with the judge cars. For example, there were seven 1963/64 Cadillacs lined up at the 2018 GN in San Marcos. 4 were display, 2 were in the Primary Judging Division and 1 was in the Touring Judging Division.

Here is a picture of 6 of those 7 1963/64's:
