Dr. Emerson, thanks for posting.

However, I would mention, the Cadillac Engineering Division has not had a good track record in developing engines as of late, HT4100 and early Northstars anyone. Hope they are letting the "Chevy" guys in Bowling Green double check their ideas, think LS 1-2-3-4-5 execeta... Not to criticize our in house guys but just want to have a second set of eyes review their work...  ::) ::) ::) ::)

The explanation is lacking in any real context or engineering - just needed to because "other GM V-8 choices were not quite right"  Anyway, sure hope they got it right.  Seems like the engineering alone cost more than the entire cost of the engine deliveries in a couple years if it is in such a limited quantity.  That is a lot of power.

Can anyone imagine the price for one of these engines.. in a car equipped with one.. that happened to get wrecked w/ low miles??

The "demand" should make the price incredible!

I like it and appreciate thatCafillac made it’s own clean sheet design engine.

Should be interesting. Reverse flow (exhaust on top) with turbos and cats in the “ vee “. Critical, cridical, cridical on cooling. I would hope the engine management software will immediately either go to “limp home” mode or shut everything off if the SLIGHTEST abberation is detected.
550 hp out of 250 inches means a VERY finicky tune at the least

They did it because competition did it.  I would much prefer a
turbo of considerably larger displacement doing something like
1.2 horse per cubic inch, would be less finicky and longer lived.

I would only buy this V-8 with a strong warranty.  500hp! (when you think about it as from a 250 cu in block - that is amazing).  Heck, I was thrilled with the power in my 1995 Cadillac RWD Fleetwood with 7.5 LT engine, 260hp and 330lb-ft.  I would be very happy if they could stuff that 400 hp Escalade V-8 in there.

Scott,
I think you are being picky. With cylinder deactivation (down to 2 cylinders), individually phased overhead cams, 5000 psi direct injection, variable pressure oiling system, 20 pounds of boost via twin scroll Mitsubishi turbochargerts, electronic waste gate control hooked up to a 10 speed transmission what could POSSIBLY go wrong.

The 4.2 TT is really two 4 cyl. engines connected by a common crankshaft.  The ECM thinks there are 2 engines, 2 maps, turbos, and CAC's.

Heat is an issue for sure but will be solved.
