1940 CADILLAC FLEETWOOD SERIES 75 FORMAL SEDAN FORMERLY OWNED BY HOWARD HUGHES

I'm assuming H.H. didn't buy used Cadillacs or any automobiles for that matter.

The last picture in the eBay listing depicts an invoice dated February 22, 1940.

The Owner appears to have paid an astounding $3.50 (THREE-DOLLARS AND FIFTY-CENTS) to have their initials included with the delivered Fleetwood.
"PLAIN BLOCK LETTER MONOGRAM WITH INITIALS "" ENCLOSED IN CIRCLE."

I am not certain, but the initials do not appear to be "H.H.", can anybody with better vison confirm that the initials are "H.H.?"

I believe HH  ought only the most inconspicuous “plane Jane” vehicles to avoid attracting attention as most (actually) rich folks of the day and today

I see the invoice showing the HH initials to be added but don't see the initials anywhere on the car.  I would need more proof than that that the car was actually Hughes'.  No mention of his name anywhere on the invoice and who says he is the only person with the initials "HH" who could afford that car.

The Fleetwood's total invoice was $3,225.90.

That's less than it cost me for me for a MOPAR PCM ECM ECU (whatever it is) with a 3 week back order plus labor.

Whether it really belonged to H.H. or not, it's an
impressive and beautiful car.  I believe the interior
is mostly original, although I'm no expert on 1940's.

Somebody obviously put some $$ into this to make
it look so good.  What astounds me is in the engine
compartment where they used worm-gear hose
clamps and topped it off with a Stant radiator cap.

OK, I understand, the initials referred to are on the invoice --- they sure look like "R.M." to me.

RM it is.  If nothing else, the car would not have been sold directly to Howard Hughes but to Hughes Oil Tool Co.

The folks being driven didn't much care where the help put their elbows while they were driving.

CAUTION..

Same seller was advertising a Rolls Royce "owned by Douglas Fairbanks" a few years ago.

As an interested buyer < I did some investigation , only to find that the original owner was his son, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.

The idea was probably 'keep your hands on the wheel'...

I think both Douglas Fairbanks and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. along with “Mommy Dearest” were intimately familiar with the Rolls Royce!

I see the invoice showing the HH initials to be added but don't see the initials anywhere on the car.

From the invoice, I think the initials were to be on the rear compartment blanket (robe). Not surprised it isn't there....
