1939 LaSalle Gas Tank Question...(PICS)

Fellas, I was about to connect the hardline of the fuel line to the gas tank and noticed that the hardline flare nut was a lot bigger than the one for the gas tank thread.  In other words, I think the hardline nut is 3/8 x 18 inches while the center threaded hole of the gas tank is 1/4', I think.  Was there a fuel rubber hose connecting these two?  Also, I noticed on my gas tank on the front corner, there is a capped nut there.  While cleaning my gas tank, I noticed that the corner capped nut had a tube connected to it.  Is this the correct area for my hardline to connect to?  Or is it supposed to be connected to the front center area?  Thanks.

I think you are missing an adapter.  The threads in the tank look like standard pipe thread and there is nothing for the flare to seal to.  The flare is the sealing point in a flare fitting while the threads are the sealing point in a standard pipe fitting.  I believe the adapter you need is available at the hardware store or the auto parts store.

hello Juan,i am not 100% certain how your lines are set up,the plug on the bottom side should be to drain the tank with,the outlet on the corner should be your fuel pickup,the adapter should be about 1 inch long,with a female thread on one end and a male thread on the other end,they are available at any hardware or car parts store,what i do if i have a need for this type of threads,i find something that will thread on to it and i take that with me to the store,makes it easier as all the threads look alike,you could take the tank with you if you havent put it back in the car yet?the adapter will be normal pipe thread,nothing special or weird about them.all the old cars used them in some capacity or other.did you have the tank cleaned by someone else?,maybe they removed the original part.let us know how you make out.  thanks Harvey Bowness
