I have done a lot of reading and research and have found no documentation that a rare option for '55 and '56 Eldorado batwing air cleaner top could be had in chrome while the air cleaner buckets were still painted gold.  There is no mention of it in the authenticity manual and my option book does not have it but I have a fellow trying to pass one off as a rare option. All I have ever seen is all gold. I think he is blowing smoke. Any comments. Thanks.

As far as I know, they were never available in chrome from the factory.
There is a fellow on E-Bay trying to sell one right now (don't know if that's
what you refer to) and it's up to about $500.  I have seen a couple that were
chromed by individuals over the years for whatever reason -- but it's not correct.

The correct color, from all info I have, is "Eldorado Gold" that matches the valve
covers.

I checked my master parts book just for fun -- no mention of any special
chrome option.  Other than his word, does he have any info to verify his claim?

Thanks Mike. The one on Ebay is the one I am referring to. I didn't think they were authentic but I thought I would post the question just to be sure.

Jim:  By the way, I had some E-Mail exchange with this "seller" -- he also has
a dual quad unit with manifold (Carters) that he swears are correct for the '55.
I politely told him that duel Carters were not used in '55 but in '56 and he told me to
"stuff it" as I didn't know what I was talking about.

Stay away from this guy -- he's smoking strong stuff.

True, too true.

If it don't go, chrome it?

Anything in an engine bay that is Chromed is really fast.

Fast in such a way that as soon as bare skin touches it, it either sticks really fast, or is pulled away, even faster, and leaves behind parts of skin that have been stuck to it.
