After a couple of months I have finally located a starter, but now I need to have it rebuilt or rebuilt it myself.  Can anyone recommended a parts source or a reputable rebuilder?

I've seen some horrible jobs that starter shops have done on a vintage starter. If you feel that you have a ghost of a chance to rebuild it yourself, that would be the best way out for you. Starters aren't an intricate device. I've rebuilt all of my starters over the years, and I know what I have.

But, when somebody says "I sent it out and had it done", I cringe.  If somebody can come up with a reliable shop that they have had do work, and moe importantly, if they know what good work is, then, maybe you'll be headed for good luck.
