Looking for information on what years and models a dual 4 bbl carb was offered on a 331 motor.  Would it be correct on my 52 convertible.

Thanks for your help

Hi Marty:

Duel quads were only offered in 1955, 1956 and 1957 (for '57 as an option).

For your 1952,  331 engine, the correct carb was the single  4 barrel
(4 BBLWCFB-896S) by Carter.

Hope that helps,

Mike

Thanks Mike

Any idea of the rarity of such a setup and what the value might be?

Marty:

If you're asking about the correct single quad for your car -- the "896S" was used
only in 1952.  However, it shouldn't be too hard to get.

A rebuilt one should be about $250.00 - $300.00 (my guess).

Check this website out:  http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/Carbsale.htm
Their site states they have it in stock but you'll have to call them for a quote.

They sell both carbs & rebuild kits.

Good luck!

Mike,

There were two Carburetor manufacturers for 1952, Rochester was the other one. The Carb # is 7004500 for 1952.

Thanks John -- I'm sure our friend will appreciate that info.

My spec book doesn't show a Rochester for '52 -- but it covers all Caddies from
1930 to 1969.  I don't have a detailed manual (such as a shop manual for '52)
so your info would be more correct if you have that!

Mike,

I do, I do. The shop manual for 1952 shows both Carter and Rochester as does my master Rochester book.

Have fun.

Hi guys

Actually what I have is a dual 4bbl set up for a 331 motor and was wondering if it would be correct for my "52 convertible".   I've had this "52 since Aug of 63  (my first car).

I had the dual 4's on the 52 for a few months in "66" but even at $ 0.27 a gal I couldn't afford to feed it.  The 52 needs a frame up restoration and I was considering putting the duals back on but wasn't sure if it was correct.  Since I can't use them I'll be putting them up for sale and trying to find out what would be a fair asking price.  The "52" may also be availabe if I can't get the time and space to work on it (Too may toys in the garage and not enough time to play with them all).

In order to answer your value question we ned more info.  What brand
of carbs are these (Rochester or Carter). Are the tags still on them -- if so,
what numbers do you see?

Hi Mike

The Carbs are Carter, both tags are still on them. The front card is #2371S  A6, Rear carb #2372S  A6.  I tried attaching pics of the set up I hope they come thru. If not it has the throttle linkage, heat tubes, fuel lines and AC fuel filter

Thank again for your help

Sorry guys
Fat fingered the keyboard and posted the wrong pic. Nice clock case though.

Marty:

According to my book, that set up is off a 1956 Eldorado.  The carb numbers
match.  Those two carbs with the manifold and the rest of any linkage
should fetch a nice price on E-Bay -- I would guess close to $1,000.

BTY, the 331 V8 was bored out to 365 cubic inch in 1956 -- so if that
manifold fit your 331, it may be a mixmaster set (??).  In other words, I'm not
ceratin that manifold would fit both engines.  Did you actually have this on your
1952?

Here'e a guy on E-Bay with the same outfit you want to sell.

He claims that the set fits the 331 and the 365 -- I can't swear to that but FYI.

Marty -

You'll find Mike is VERY correct on ALL of the stuff he comments on - we're lucky he's a (mid 50's) Cadillac guy!

One other thing I'd like to add so you can avoid any post-sale problems - the manifold and carbs may bolt up to a 331 and/or 365, but WILL NOT fit under the hood of a 57 - 58 Cadillac.

One of the major styling changes from 56 to 57 was a lowering of the hood line between the fenders.  As a result, intake manifolds, air cleaners and even the carburetors are all SHORTER for 1957 - so that the assembled height would fit under a closed 1957 hood.  I use the charts from 'the Carburetor Shop' referred to earlier in this thread to determine the proper application by casting number.

Bottom line - will it bolt up? Probably.  Will the engine run?  Probably.  Will the hood close? Most likely not on a 57 (or 58).

Hi Mike

Thanks for the info, exactly what I was looking for.  but that raises another question. What is the difference between the 2 carbs having having different tag numbers.
I did have them on the "52" for a short while but the gas milage went from approx 14 to less than 8 mpg.  Although admittedly I did have trouble keeping my foot out of it.
Close to $1000.00   Wow!  not bad for the $20.00 original investment,

The part number for the '55 & '56 intake manifold with the 2-carb set-up is the same.

Marty:

They have two different tag numbers since one is the "front" carb and the other
of course the "rear" -- it has to do with how the linkage bolts up and some other
minor differences with the fittings.
