Could anyone recommend a good reasonably price OEM after market fuel injector for a 91 Cadillac Eldorado? Are the aftermarket injectors as good as the stock Cadillac injectors?

TJ Hopland

Napa has the Delphi one listed for around $100.  Happens to be the same price as a rebuilt one.  Their brand of new one $35 more.  You may be able to cross reference the delphi number on some of the 'performance' sites but I would not expect them to be cheaper.  If you look on ebay there are often a bunch of vendors selling new and rebuilt injectors.  I have never shopped for that vintage or style so I dont know if those prices are good or not.    In my area the junk yards are full of those engines and most of them appear to have injectors still on them.  They go for $4 each.  Only issue is air intake system and power steering have to come off to lift the fuel rail unless its a yard that will let you just cut the rail to get the injectors out.

Thanks so much for your help!  Would there be any performance problems using after market injectors?  Any other opinions or ideas are welcome.

My 1990 Sedan deVille has one after market fuel injector.  It runs and performs at least as well as with eight original injectors.  rockauto.com shows six injectors for your model ranging in price from $32.79 (plus $10 core) up to $117.99.

If one or a few injector are bad, don't most replace all so they all fire equally? If a new injector is firing 100% and the rest 80-90% doesn't overall performance suffer?

I don't know what "most" do.  I had one bad injector and I replaced it.  The car still gets up around 30 mpg on the highway, accelerates nicely, and idles smooth.  If there has been any performance degradation, it would require machinery to detect.  That is my experience.

Are the stock injectors multi port? Which after market brand did you go with?

Thanks.

The whole fuel injection system is multi-port or multi-point.  It has been a while and I am not sure where I put the injector that I took out.  The more I think about it, I think each individual injector has multiple holes arranged in a circle on the exit end.   I don't know if you would have the option of choosing between single or multiple orifice injectors.  I also don't remember the brand.  I bought it from Discount Auto Parts in Grovetown, GA about 8 years ago before they were bought out by Advance Auto Parts.

Send all your injectors out to a diesel injector shop. They clean, ohm, & pressure test. It`s a lot cheaper than all new injectors. I had 4 bad out of 8 on my 90 SDV 4.5. I bought 4 new from AC Delco jobber, a lot cheaper than NAPA, & genuine GM. My car gets 28 mpg @ 70 mph, @ 160000 miles.

The Labor is the bad part. Whoever designed that engine was an idiot.

Unless a diesel injector shop is easy to find where you are, you should also be able to get your injectors cleaned at any well equipped auto repair shop (or your GM dealer if the price isn't too steep).  Most in the auto repair business these days can service injectors.
